Profile, Notification, and Account Settings in Brightspace

Introduction

This article will summarize the useful tools that are available to help you personalize your Brightspace account. You can change and/or update your user profile and account settings & notifications in Brightspace, all by clicking your name in the upper right corner above the toolbar. This can be done at anytime, from any course.

Update Your Profile Settings

Personalize your profile page to share information about you!

  • Add a picture: Easily add an image or picture from your computer or mobile device to personalize your profile.
  • Add information about you! Add information about your hobbies, interests, accomplishments, social media networks, etc., that you'd like to share with your Brightspace community!

Change Your Notifications

Control what notifications you receive in your course and how you receive them.

  1. Customize your notification's based on your preference.
    • You can set your notifications to alert you when there is activity in your course.
    • To send a periodic summary of activity.
    • Instantly be notified as things happen such as when grades are posted.
    • Set quiz and due date reminders, etc.
  2. Setting up notifications can be a great tool for those with busy lives. You control which courses send these alerts and how much information you would like to receive.
  3. Notification Pro Tip: Many instructors rely on announcements for important course information. Setting both the Announcements - new announcement available and the Announcements - announcement updated for Email will help ensure you receive important communications.

Change Your Account Settings

Click on your name in the upper right corner of your Brightspace course to access account settings.

  • Add your preferred pronouns, change fonts, add settings for reading, dialogs, video, languages.
  • Choose your discussion preferences and how they are viewed.
  • Choose how you sign in and send an email.
