Introduction

Brightspace's app, called Pulse, is available to download from the App Store and Google Play. There are some visual differences between looking at Brightspace on a computer browser versus in the Pulse app. For the best experience (to prevent loss of work), using a web browser version is recommended for assignment submission and grading. 

Install the App

Visit the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store to download and install the "Brightspace Pulse" app. The app icon will look like a heartbeat image against a reddish-orange background:

Logging in the First Time

1. When you first launch the app, you will get a few screens welcoming you and introducing the available features. Select "Next" on the bottom right to see more features until you reach a screen with a "Get Started" button.
2. Select the "Get Started" button.
3. The app may prompt you to allow it to use your location. If it does, choose "Allow."
4. The next screen will show a search box at the top that says "Find your school or institution." Enter "SUNY Empire" in the search box and select "SUNY Empire" when it appears in the list.
   • Please Note: you may also see "Empire State College" in the list of schools. This is option will not lead you to SUNY Empire State's Brightspace site.
5. Depending on your device, it may present a screen asking you to use your Google account. If it does this, select "Use without an account". If you don't see this screen, skip to the next step.
6. The next screen may ask you to Select a Campus from a drop down menu. If so, choose Empire State from the list. Select the Remember Campus item to remember this choice. Then select the "Log In" button.
7. Enter your SUNY Empire username and password, just as you would to log into MySUNYEmpire.

Navigating the Pulse App

1. Unlike what you see in a web browser, in the Pulse app, your options for Upcoming (calendar), and Notifications will appear along the bottom of the page. The My Courses widget will display all courses you are enrolled into much like you see in a web browser.
2. Select a course and you will see a simplified navigation menu with just "Content" and "Grades" across the top.
3. You have the option to view the course homepage and navbar in web browser mode. Select the 3-dot ellipsis in the top right corner and select "Launch Course Homepage."
4. You will see your course minibar with email, alerts, and notifications at the top, the course homepage, and a "hamburger" menu on the upper left that contains the course navbar. Note: If you are using a tablet or a phone with a larger screen, or your screen is in landscape orientation, you may not see the "hamburger" and your screen may look very similar to the full website experience.
5. Select the hamburger menu and you will see the same options available on the course navbar that are available in a computer web browser. Your minibar (email, alerts and notifications icons) remains at the top, but your course navbar will cover it when opened.

Introducción

La aplicación de Brightspace, llamada Pulse, está disponible para descargarse desde Google Play y Apple App . Hay algunas diferencias visuales cuando se usa Brightspace en un navegador de computadora y cuando se usa la aplicación Pulse. Para una mejor experiencia y para evitar la pérdida de trabajo, recomendamos que se use la versión en navegador web para entregar tareas y revisar calificaciones.

Instalar la aplicación

Visita las tiendas Google Play o la Apple App para descargar e instalar la aplicación Brightspace Pulse. El ícono de la aplicación tiene una imagen del latido de un corazón sobre un fondo rojo anaranjado:

Iniciar sesión por primera vez

1. Al abrir la aplicación por primera vez, verás unas pantallas de bienvenida e información sobre las funciones disponibles. Selecciona Siguiente en la esquina inferior derecha para avanzar hasta llegar a una pantalla con el botón Comenzar.
2. Selecciona el botón Comenzar.
3. La aplicación puede pedirte permiso para usar tu ubicación. Si lo hace, selecciona Permitir.
4. En la siguiente pantalla verás un campo de búsqueda que dice Busca tu escuela o institución. Escribe SUNY Empire y selecciona SUNY Empire cuando aparezca en la lista.
   • Nota:Es posible que veas Empire State College en la lista de instituciones. Esa opción no te llevará al sitio de Brightspace de SUNY Empire.
5. Según el dispositivo que tengas, puede que aparezca una pantalla preguntando si quieres usar tu cuenta de Google. Si aparece, selecciona Usar sin cuenta. Si no aparece, pasa al siguiente paso.
6. La siguiente pantalla podría pedirte que selecciones un campus desde un menú desplegable. Si es así, elige Empire State de la lista. Marca la opción Recordar campus para guardar esta elección. Luego, selecciona el botón Iniciar sesión.
7. Ingresa tu nombre de usuario y contraseña de SUNY Empire, igual que lo harías para ingresar a MySUNYEmpire.

Navegar en la aplicación Pulse (H2)

1. A diferencia de lo que ves en el navegador de la web, en la aplicación Pulse tus opciones para Próximamente, Calendario y Notificaciones, aparecerán en la parte inferior de la pantalla. El widget de Mis cursos muestra todos los cursos en los que estás inscrito, similar a lo que ves en la versión web.
2. Al seleccionar un curso, verás un menú de navegación simplificado con solo Contenido y Calificaciones en la parte superior.
3. Tienes la opción de ver la página de inicio del curso y la barra de navegación en modo navegador web. Para hacerlo, toca el ícono de tres puntos en la esquina superior derecha y selecciona Abrir página de inicio del curso.
4. Verás la mini barra del curso con íconos de correo, alertas y notificaciones en la parte superior, junto con la página de inicio del curso. En la esquina superior izquierda habrá un menú tipo hamburguesa que contiene la barra de navegación del curso.
   • Nota:Si estás usando una tableta, un teléfono con pantalla grande, o si tu dispositivo está en modo horizontal, es posible que no veas el ícono de menú hamburguesa y tu pantalla se parezca mucho más a la experiencia completa del sitio web.
5. Al seleccionar el menú en forma de hamburguesa, verás las mismas opciones que están disponibles en la barra de navegación del curso en la versión de navegador. La mini barra que contiene el correo, alertas y notificaciones permanece en la parte superior, aunque quedará cubierta por la barra del curso cuando esté abierta.
