Logging into LEARNscape

Introduction

In order to access your saved videos and playlists on LEARNscape, you must be logged in with your SUNY Empire username and password. This article will be reviewing how to login and view your account information.

Login to LEARNscape

  1. In a web browser, go to the URL learn.sunyempire.edu. Firefox or Google Chrome are the recommended browsers while using LEARNscape.
  2. The LEARNscape site will open and you will be logged in as a Guest.
  3. Click on the Guest drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner and choose Login.
  4. Enter your SUNY Empire username and password, then click Login.

Now that you have logged in with your SUNY Empire username and password, you will be taken back to the LEARNscape site. You are now logged in as yourself and can view media internal to the university and access your My Media, section.

Guest Access

Guests are non-SUNY Empire personnel. Guests have the ability to view any media that is open to the public. Guests cannot make a copy or download media, make a playlist, add or save media in LEARNscape, or create a LEARNscape account.

If you are a SUNY Empire and would like a guest to view your content, you must receive administrative approval.

If you are a Guest and cannot view a specific media, please contact the SUNY Empire Service Desk at service-desk@sunyempire.edu.

User Access

All SUNY Empire faculty and students have user access to LEARNscape by logging in with their SUNY Empire account.

Examples of what users can access depends on a faculty or student's entitlement, which are listed below:

  • Add and create your own media in LEARNscape (videos, screencasts, photos, audio files).
  • Create videos using the Kaltura Capture recording feature.
  • Create playlists, and more.

Listed below are the permissions and entitlements all for faculty, staff, and students using LEARNscape:

  • Create/Add new supported media files and with Kaltura Capture.
  • Order close captions (cc).
  • Create a playlist in LEARNscape.
  • Own a MyMedia repository in LEARNscape.
  • Have MyMedia connected to Brightspace.
  • Comment on other users; media.
  • Allow comments on own media.
  • Close comments on own media.
  • Make media private to self only.
  • Make media unlisted but able to be viewed by others with a link.
  • Publish media to a Channel to be viewed by designated affiliates at this University.
  • Cannot publish media to the public.
  • Cannot upload from YouTube or Vimeo.
