Introduction

As part of your Financial Aid award, you might decide to accept Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans from the Federal Government. In order to use these funds, you must also complete Entrance Loan Counseling* and the Direct Loan Master Promissory Note.** You can satisfy these requirements by completing the following steps.

1. Navigate to https://studentaid.gov/

2. Federal Student Aid home page, go to Loans and Grants.

3. Click on Loan Entrance Counseling or click on Master Promissory Note (MPN) (if you need to complete both it doesn't matter what order you complete them in).

4. After selecting the appropriate option, click on the LOG IN TO START button and login using your FSA ID Username and FSA ID Password.

5. After all necessary steps have been completed, you will receive an email from Federal Student Aid confirming your successful completion.

*Direct Loan Entrance Counseling is only required for students who have not previously received a subsidized/unsubsidized loan or PLUS loan (graduate/professional students only) under the Direct Loan Program or Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program (source: www.studentloans.gov).

**There is one MPN for Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans and a different MPN for Direct PLUS Loans. Most schools are authorized to make multiple federal student loans under one MPN for up to 10 years (source: www.studentloans.gov).
