Introduction
This article provides faculty with resources and general information about SUNY Empire's Educational Planning (EDPL) course offerings. This EDPL practice began with the Fall 2022 term.
How to find your EDPL sections
Mentors are given a course registration number (CRN) for each of the following EDPL course numbers (each section has 100 seat capacity):
- EDPL 1005, Educational Planning: Introductory I, 2 credits
- EDPL 1010, Educational Planning: Introductory II, 4 credits
- EDPL 3005 Educational Planning: Advanced I, 2 credits
- EDPL 3010 Educational Planning: Advanced II, 4 credits
Mentors are notified of their CRNs through the faculty schedule email sent prior to registration opening for the term. If you lose the email, no need to worry, you can find your CRNs by visiting our EDPL CRN Search Page. Enter the term and your name to filter down to your personalized CRNs.
Key Takeaways:
- Mentors are responsible for sharing their CRNs with their mentees for registration.
- The CRNs will change every term for each mentor.
- The sections created are typically for the full 15-week term. If a multi-seat Express Term section is needed, please email us at RegistrarsOffice@sunyempire.edu. If you need just one seat for a student, you can create a the just-in-time (JIT) section through the Course Section Request form. Please remember that a JIT section cannot be combined into another LMS/Brightspace shell.
- If you see a student that has registered for your section and is not your mentee, please email us at RegistrarsOffice@sunyempire.edu.
Other EDPL Options
In addition to the standard EDPL 1005, 1010, 3005, and 3010 sections outlined above, there are additional EDPL course number options depending on the needs of your student. Although similar in nature, each EDPL course has their own course description and learning outcomes. This information is in the course catalog for each EDPL option.
You can create a JIT section of the following:
Introductory
1015 Topics in Educational Planning: Introductory I, 2 credits
1020 Topics in Educational Planning: Introductory II, 4 credits
Advanced
3015 Topics in Educational Planning: Advanced I, 2 credits
3020 Topics in Educational Planning: Advanced II, 4 credits
We also have the totally individualized (TIS) option. This gives the option for varied credit. You can create a TIS section for these through the Course Section Request form. With this option, you must create your own 50-word course description and have at least 3 learning outcomes associated with the section.
Introductory
1998 (Intro) Individualized Studies in Educational Planning (EDPL), credit varies: 1-8
2998 (Intro) Individualized Studies in Educational Planning (EDPL), credit varies: 1-8
Advanced
3998 (Adv) Individualized Studies in Educational Planning (EDPL), credit varies: 1-8
4998 (Adv) Individualized Studies in Educational Planning (EDPL), credit varies: 1-8
Last, there are other course option that can count toward the EDPL requirement. You can find these by entering “Educational Planning” in the Attribute field while searching the course catalog.
