Withdrawing Due to Extenuating and Unforeseen Circumstances

Introduction

If extenuating and unforeseen circumstances force you to withdraw from courses, you may request an exception to the withdrawal policy.

How to Request an Exception to the Withdrawal Policy

  1. When logged into MySUNYEmpire, scroll down and click on Student Accounts.
  2. From the Student Accounts portal, under Quicklinks, click on Exceptions to the Withdrawal Policy.
  3. Click the link for your circumstance:
  4. On that page, review the information regarding:
    • Requirements for Exceptions (all must be met)
    • Appropriate Conditions for Exceptions
    • Unacceptable Conditions for Exceptions
  5. Under For More Information, click How to Apply for an Exception to the Withdrawal Policy.
    • Email StudentAccounts@sunyempire.edu with a brief explanation of circumstances, including start/end dates and how they restricted your studies.
    • If you meet the criteria, the application will be emailed to you.
    • Complete and return the application, personal statement, and official third-party documentation to Student Accounts (contact info on the application).
