Withdrawing Due to Extenuating and Unforeseen Circumstances

Relevant to: Students, Staff, Faculty.

 

 

Introduction

 

If extenuating and unforeseen circumstances force you to withdraw from courses, you may request an exception to the withdrawal policy.

 


 

1.     When you are logged in to MySUNYEmpire, scroll down and click on Student Accounts.

 

2. From the Student Accounts Portal, go to Quicklinks and click on Exceptions to the Withdrawal Policy.

 

3. Click here If you are a military student called to active duty. Otherwise, click Withdrawing Due to Extenuating and Unforeseen Circumstance below for further information about the request.

 

4. Here you will find information regarding:

 

a. Requirements for Exceptions (all of which must be met).

 

b. Appropriate Conditions for Exceptions.

 

c. Unacceptable Conditions for Exceptions.

 

5. Under For More Information, click the link for How to Apply for an Exception to the Withdrawal Policy.

 

a. Email StudentAccounts@sunyempire.edu. Give a brief explanation of the circumstances, including start and end dates of occurrence, and explain how circumstances restricted you from your studies.

 

b. If you meet the criteria, the application will be emailed to you.

 

c. Complete and return the application, your personal statement, and official third-party documentation to Student Accounts. All contact info is on the application.

 

6. Review the remaining links for Acceptable Third-Party Documentation (because your application is incomplete and will not be reviewed if these documents are not provided), Important Information (how withdrawals can effect financial aid eligibility, finality of appeals decisions, responsibility for remaining balances), and What to Expect (time frame of appeal, what happens if approved, what happens if denied).
