Connect to SUNYEmpire WiFi

The SUNY Empire university WIFI network is identified as "SUNYEmpire.”  "SUNYEmpire" is available to faculty, staff, and students only and will require authentication with a university user-id and password.​

How to Connect/Reconnect to SUNYEmpire

  1. After Forgetting the SUNYEmpire Connection (if applicable), complete the steps below.
  2. Select SUNYEmpire in your list of available WiFi connections, then select Connect, and then enter your user ID and password.

  3. You may be prompted to authenticate at this point. After that, you should see the WiFi connected symbol in your system tray.

  4. Confirm you are connected by opening a web browser and ensuring the page loads.

How to Forget a WiFi Connection 

Under certain circumstances, you will need to log out of the SUNYEmpire and log back in.

On a Windows computer, in your system tray of the computer (lower right hand corner)

you will see one of 3 icons that relate to your network connection:

  • a square with a cable next to it which indicates you are connected by a physical cable connection (ethernet)

  • a globe with a small circle with a line in the lower right corner of the globe which indicates the computer is looking for a Wireless (WiFi) connection but is not connected

  • a dot with three curved lines over it which indicates you are connected to WiFi

To log out of the WiFi and forget the connection:

  1. Select the network icon that shows in your system tray. This will open a window that shows WiFi in the upper left corner with a right pointing arrow.

  2. Select that right pointing arrow to see a list of WiFi points available and right click on the SUNYEmpire. This will bring up three options: Connect, Properties or Forget.

  3. Select Forget to have it forget your old login information. Now, SUNYEmpire should show a “Connect” button when you select SUNYEmpire.

  4. After forgetting, return to the top of this article to connect/reconnect to the WiFi.

Using a Mac 

  • In the upper right of your screen in the menu bar, select the WiFi icon.

  • You'll see a list of networks you can connect to. Select "SUNYEmpire"

  • You'll be asked for your username and password (enter your @sunyempire email and password)

  •  Once you fill in your credentials and click "Join", you should now be connected to the SUNYEmpire
