How to Navigate MySUNYEmpire Student Portal

Relevant To: Students, Faculty, and Staff.

 

 

Introduction

The following article details important areas of the student home page and assists students in navigating the overall portal. 


 

Access

From your web browser, type my.sunyempire.edu (This takes you to the log in screen).

Menu (upper left)

For basic site navigation, hover on Menu (on mobile, click). Note the Calendars and the Forms and Publications links as both are very useful university resources.

Your Home Page

Use the icons along the top for quick access to key tools and resources.

My Student Business: these four icons present quick access to three vital offices as well as a quick means to update important student information.

My Bookmarks and Campus Links: contains links relevant to the university community. 

Add your Own Links to My Links

Click Manage Bookmarks > Add to My Links


There are additional Resources in the center of the page.

Can't find what you need? Try Search.

Search Everything vs. the Menu Search

Use the search field in the top right of the screen to Search Everything (all MySUNYEmpire, according to your access rights).

Note: Searching inside the Menu (top left) filters the choices located in the Menu only.

 

Tabbed Displays

Tabbed displays save space on a page. In the example below, the "Announcements" tab is “active” showing announcements content. Click the "Events" tab to see the Events content.

Basic Web Browsing Tips

Increase the size of icons and text: press Ctrl +

Decrease the size of icons and text: press Ctrl –

Find any text string on the current web page: press Ctrl + F

Right-click on any link/icon/button to open in a new tab:

Focus on Content Icon (top right)
(A toggle which hides/unhides the breadcrumb trail, Page Heading and Search.)

You can gain some screen real estate by clicking the Focus on Content icon, BUT remember to click the icon again (toggle) to reverse this, since it hides important features like the breadcrumb trail (used for navigation), the page heading and the search field.

Sign Out

In the upper right, click the down arrow to the right of your name and choose > Sign Out
