Introduction

LEARNscape is an easy to use, robust media platform that enables students, faculty, and staff, to view, record, upload, publish, search, and share video. It is safely contained within the SUNY Empire community, so you can think of it as our organizations' own YouTube. LEARNscape is also integrated with Brightspace, so creating and sharing video content with students has never been easier.

When to Use

LEARNscape is a public facing media site that is accessed at learn.sunyempire.edu. This site is best used for sharing video content that is not course specific. For example, university advertising videos, university events and conferences recordings, and open educational resources. Videos published to the LEARNscape site can be public facing or internal to the university.

LEARNscape in Brightspace

When to Use

LEARNscape in Brightspace provides an easy and convenient way for you to create and store media without ever having to leave Brightspace. The LEARNscape in Brightspace integration is best used for video content that is specific to course material (i.e. lecture video, assignment explanation, or video artifact). This is how faculty will primarily use LEARNscape.

What can I do with LEARNscape and LEARNscape in Brightspace?

  • Store your personal media files in one place.
  • Run an analytic report to find out how often your videos are being watched and by whom.
  • Create webcam, screen capture videos and instantly share them with students or staff.
  • Easily place videos inside of your Brightspace courses.
  • Caption your videos to meet ADA compliance.
  • Create a channel of similar videos to share.
  • Generate an embed code to share a video.

Acceptable Media Formats

LEARNscape accepts a large variety of media formats which makes sharing your content easier than ever.

  • Video: , flv, f4v, mp4, mov, mpg, mpeg, webm, wm, wmv, and most other formats;
  • Audio: aac, aiff, amr, asf, avi, f4v, flv, mp3, mp4, mov, wav and other formats;
  • Image: jpg, png, bmp and other formats.
