Introduction

Recording synchronous sessions in Microsoft Teams is an ideal way to ensure students can access the session if they were unable to attend or to review discussions that were had. The following article will share how to record these sessions, how to share the recording, and how to extend the time allotted for the recording to be saved.

Recording and Sharing the Recording

  1. To record a meeting select the More button next to the Camera Button.
MS Teams calling out the More option to the left of the Camera icon

  2. From there select Record and Transcribe and choose Start Recording.

  3. To stop the recording, select Record and Transcribe and choose Stop Recording.

  4. Teams will process the recording and it will appear in the meeting Chat window as a resource for viewing. If students wish to watch the recording, they can do so by entering the meeting via the link in the Brightspace course, and selecting the Chat button.

  5. Then select the three dots in the upper left of the recording and choose Open in Stream.

Note: The person that starts the recording owns the recording and settings - you must start the recording, not one of your students. If someone else accidentally starts a recording ask them to stop it. You may then start recording a new recording that you will own.

Changing the Recording Expiration Date

  1. In the Chat window look for the meeting expiration notice under the recording. Select the "here" link in the notice; this opens the recording file in Sharepoint in your default web browser.

  2. Select the Expires in 90 Days button link at the bottom left of the video.

  3. Choose to Remove Expiration, the button link changes to "No Expiration".

  4. You can view the video or close the Sharepoint window.

Note: Microsoft indicates that the message in the Teams chat will not change, it will still indicate an expiration is set. They suggest that Sharepoint is the relevant one.
