Using ReadSpeaker in Brightspace

Introduction

ReadSpeaker is a text to speech product that is integrated into Brightspace for all users. Users can listen to text in Brightspace by either clicking the Listen/play button that appears in the toolbar, or by selecting specific text and then clicking on Listen. ReadSpeaker has a synchronized highlighting function to help users follow along while the text is read. Users can change the reading speed or highlighting color, translate text into various languages, download audio files to listen to offline, and adjust font styles and sizes in Text Mode (ReadSpeaker, n.d.).

ReadSpeaker Features

You can try out ReadSpeaker here or in Brightspace following the steps below:

  1. Locate the toolbar

  2. Click the Listen/play button to hear the text read.
  3. For additional features, click the three lines to the left of Listen to expand the menu.

  4. Access Settings if you want to turn off highlighting, change text size or color, or change reading speed.
  5. Toggle on Click and Listen if you want to have text read wherever you click on screen, where ReadSpeaker is available.
  6. Turn on Text Mode to make additional changes to font size, style, or text and background color. The example below shows yellow text on a black background.

  7. Turn on Page Mask if you want focus assistance when reading text.

  8. To translate text to various languages, select the text, click translate, and then select a language. You can also look up words and phrases by selecting text and clicking on dictionary. In addition, you can highlight text and then click the listen button.

Using ReadSpeaker in Discussions

There are a few things to be aware of when trying to use ReadSpeaker in Discussions in Brightspace.

  1. You must navigate to Discussions through the Course Menu tab.

    Note: If you open Discussions from Content, the ReadSpeaker button will not be there.

  2. After navigating to Discussions through the Course Menu tab, you must open the Discussion Topic for the Read Speaker button to appear.

    Note: ReadSpeaker is not available if you are just in the Discussions List and not viewing a topic.

  3. The Listen button may not automatically appear for Discussion post replies. You may need to first highlight the text of the reply and then select Listen.

Using ReadSpeaker in Module Description

Please be aware that the ReadSpeaker player will not appear when viewing the module description/overview, but will appear when navigating to specific components within the module.

Introducción

ReadSpeaker es un producto de texto a voz integrado en Brightspace para todos los usuarios. Los usuarios pueden escuchar texto en Brightspace seleccionando el botón Escuchar/reproducir que aparece en la barra de herramientas, o seleccionando texto específico y luego en Escuchar. ReadSpeaker tiene una función de resaltado sincronizado para ayudar a los usuarios a seguir el texto mientras se lee.

Los usuarios pueden cambiar la velocidad de lectura, traducir texto a varios idiomas, descargar archivos de audio para escuchar sin conexión a Internet y ajustar estilos y tamaños de fuente en Modo texto (ReadSpeaker, s.f.).

Características de ReadSpeaker

Puedes probar ReadSpeaker aquí o en Brightspace siguiendo los siguientes pasos:

  2. Selecciona el botón Escuchar/reproducir para escuchar cómo se lee el texto.

  4. Accede a Configuración si quieres desactivar la función de resaltado, cambiar el tamaño del texto o cambiar la velocidad de lectura.
  5. Activa Clic y Escuchar si quieres que el texto sea leído donde seleccionastes en la pantalla,o donde el ReadSpeaker esté disponible.

  7. Activa la Máscara de página si quieres ayuda para concentrarte al leer el texto. Máscara de página activada para enfocar una parte del texto

  8. Para traducir texto a varios idiomas, selecciona el texto, escoge Traducir y luego selecciona un idioma. También puedes buscar palabras y frases seleccionando texto y haciendo clic en Diccionario. Además, puedes resaltar texto y luego hacer clic en el botón de Escuchar.

Nota para hablantes de español: Cambia la voz de tu lectura a "Francisco español" haciendo clic en el botón de menú en ReadSpeaker.

Uso de ReadSpeaker en las discusiones

Hay algunas cosas que debes tener en cuenta al intentar usar ReadSpeaker en las discusiones de Brightspace.

  1. Debes navegar a Discusiones a través de la pestaña del Menú del curso. Menú del curso con la opción Discusiones

  2. Tras navegar a Discusiones a través de la pestaña del Menú del curso, debes abrir el Tema de discusión para que aparezca el botón ReadSpeaker. Tema de discusión abierto con el botón ReadSpeaker disponible

Nota: Si abres Discusiones desde Contenido, el botón ReadSpeaker no estará disponible.

Nota: ReadSpeaker no está disponible si solo estás en la Lista de discusiones y no estás viendo un tema. El botón Escuchar puede no aparecer automáticamente para las respuestas dentro de una discusión. Puede que primero tengas que resaltar el texto de la respuesta y luego seleccionar Escuchar.

Uso de ReadSpeaker en la descripción del módulo

Ten en cuenta que el reproductor ReadSpeaker no aparecerá al ver la descripción o visión general del módulo, pero sí aparecerá al navegar hacia componentes específicos dentro del módulo.
