Introduction

The Edit feature allows the owner to make changes to a video's details, thumbnails, appearance and more. This article outlines the various changes that can be made with the Edit feature.

Access the Edit Menu

Choosing Edit from the Actions menu will open a Details panel.

  1. Description: Here you can add text description of the contents of this Media Gallery. Further editing includes adding color to text, bold, italics, underline, bullets, lists, indentations, hyperlink or attaching an image.
  2. Tags: Use this field to enter tags (three characters or longer) to make your Course Media Gallery searchable among other galleries. Tags should not use of underscores. Between two and four tags (but no more than five tags) should be included - for example; one regarding content and one regarding the video subject. Course titles are also a possibility for tags.
  3. Creative Commons: Choose an optional Creative Commons license (not required for publishing).

Replacing Media

Replace Media is a feature that allows owners to upload a new version of a video in place of an existing one. This allows the entry to retain its metadata such as title, description, tags, and view count even though it is a new and/or updated video. Replace Media is helpful for when mistakes are made or updates are needed, but a video has already been on LEARNscape for some time or shared to a wide audience. Please note: LEARNscape users can not rerecord a webcam video or screen recording video and replace an existing video. Replace Media only allows you to upload a video file from your computer or other storage device.

How to Replace Media

  1. From your My Media, locate the video that you would like to replace and click on its corresponding Edit button.
  2. Click on the Replace Media tab.
  3. Click on the Choose a file to upload button.
  4. Locate the new video file using the browser window and click Open. This will take a few minutes to upload. The message Upload Completed! Continue to replace media will appear when finished.
  5. Click the Approve Replacement button. The message Your media was successfully replaced will appear when the video is finished processing.

Captions and Publishing

Captions

When a file is replaced, it will retain its time stamped meta-data including captions. However, captions will likely be out of sync if the timing of the video has changed. New captions should be ordered and edited. Please see the Order Captions for a Video article for more information. Please note, ordering captions is only available to Faculty and not students.

Publishing

When replacing media: If the media is published in a moderated (i.e. Public, open, or restricted) channel/category, media will be unpublished and moved to the pending moderation state. If the media is in un-moderated channel/category (private), media will remain published.
