Introduction
Once you have created or uploaded media to LEARNscape there are a few different ways that the media can be shared with other members of the university or the general public. This article provides an overview of the different methods that can be used to share content. Please review additional articles for instructions on sharing media in the specific manner.
Share Link to Video with SUNY Empire Members
Before you can share a video, you must change the publishing status to Unlisted. Then you can generate a link to share with members of the SUNY Empire community.
- Open the LEARNscape video you would like to share.
- Click the Actions drop-down menu that appears below the video and select Publish.
- A list of options will appear. Choose Unlisted.
- Click the Save button. You will see a message that reads "Media successfully set to Unlisted".
- Click the Share button.
- Copy the link that appears. This is the link that you can share with members of SUNY Empire.
Embed Video
- Open the LEARNscape video for which you would like to generate an embed code.
- Click the Share button that appears below the video. A new section will load with three tabs.
- Click the Embed option.
- Choose from the available video player sizes by selecting an option under Player Size.
- Copy the embed code that is generated.
- Paste the embed code into the HTML of the desired website.
Please note: The oEmbed option is an additional feature that should only be used when necessary. Do not use this link if you are not familiar with oEmbed.
Share Video outside of SUNY Empire
LEARNscape videos must be made public in order to be shared outside of the University. Videos are made public through a publishing and approval process. In some circumstances, it may make more sense to share the video without using LEARNscape. Please review the article or contact Empire Online for assistance sharing video outside of SUNY Empire.
Publish Media to a Channel
Channels are user curated media collections that allow users of LEARNscape to share content with a particular audience. They are best used to organize related videos into a central location (i.e. all Brightspace student tutorials). When you create a channel, you can grant other members of the university permission to allow them to contribute to, moderate, or manage the channel. Additional steps can be taken to make a channel accessible to every member of the university (faculty/staff and students) or to the general public (see publish media publicly to a channel or category).
Add Media to a Playlist
Your LEARNscape media can be added to a playlist. The Add to Playlist feature allows you to create a new playlist or add videos to an existing playlist. These playlists can be then be displayed in LEARNscape, embedded into a webpage, or embedded into a Brightspace course. Please note: Once a playlist is embedded into a website, the videos are made accessible to the general public.
Share Media with Collaboration
The collaboration feature of LEARNscape allows owners of media to assign editing and publishing permissions to other members of the university. The same feature can also be used to change the media owner. Collaboration is best used when one video needs to be edited or shared by multiple people. For example, one person creates a video and the second person captions the video.
