Using Drag and Drop to Manage Your Course Content

Introduction

Brightspace makes it easy to create and rearrange your course content using a drag and drop feature. You can drag and drop files from your computer to create and update topics, move and reorder modules and topics, and update existing topics.

Drag and Drop Files From Your Computer to Create and Update Topics

In Brightspace, you can drag and drop a file from your desktop directly into an open module:

  1. Locate the file on the desktop.
  2. Drag the file from your desktop over to the module, the area will appear as a blue line to indicate you can drop it there.
  3. Drop the file above or below existing files.
  4. View the file.
  5. Notification window prompt at the bottom of the page "Content updated successfully".

The default file title in your Brightspace module will be the same as it was on your computer. To rename the file

  1. Click on the file title.
  2. Click on the file title again. A blue box will appear.
  3. Rename the file, then press Enter on your keyboard, or click outside the box.
  4. Notification window prompt at the bottom of the page "Title saved successfully".

Move and Reorder Modules and Topics

Dragging and dropping files is a quick way of reorganizing course modules using a simple mouse click. If you drag a module or file above or below other modules and files, a blue line appears to indicate you can drop the module or file there. If you drag a module or file over another module, the module appears blue to indicate you can drop it there.

To move a file within a module:

  1. Hover your cursor to the left of the file title, until it is over the four rows of two dots.
  2. Your cursor will turn from an arrow to a series of cross arrows.
  3. Click and drag the file up or down to relocate it.
  4. Drop the file in your desired location. Use the blue lines as a guide.
  5. When finished, the notification window prompt at the bottom of the page "Moved successfully"will appear.

Update Existing Files

You can automatically update your existing files by dragging the newest version of your file into the appropriate module:

  • Locate the newest version of your file with the same name.
  • Drag the newest version of your file into the appropriate module.
  • Check the box next to Replace files with the same name.
  • Click Upload.
