Introduction
In Brightspace, it is possible to manually grade longer assignments with an analytic rubric, for long answer and essay questions. This article will walk you through the manual grading process with an analytic rubric, and will show you how to manually override grades in the gradebook. Please note it is assumed that you already have an analytic rubric created in your course.
Grading With a Rubric
While grading activities, if you select an analytic rubric with multiple criteria, you must score it manually. This type of assessment can be useful if you need to make an informed judgment when grading submissions such as long answers and essay questions. Here is how to manually grade an assignment with an analytic rubric:
- Navigate to the Course Homepage.
- Click Course Menu on the navbar.
- Click Grades.
- Click on the Student Assignment you wish to grade on the Enter Grades page.
- Click on the Rubric you wish to use for grading; under the Evaluation & Feedback.
- Fill in the Associated rubric.
- Click Close.
- Click Save as Draft if you wish to delay publishing the grade until later OR
- Click Publish to have the grade entered into the grade book.
