Introduction
This article will outline how to edit captions and how to make them accurate if the video owner has found any errors in the machine captioning.
All LEARNscape video and audio files can be captioned using voice-to-text technology. Once any file is uploaded into Learnscape, the system immediately starts generating machine captions. This automated feature produces a 90-98% accurately captioned video which can then be easily updated for 100% accuracy. A transcript will also be generated that can be searched, downloaded, or printed. Videos and audio files where the voice is clear, audible, and in English will produce the most accurate voice-to-text captions. Once captions are auto generated, they need to be reviewed for accuracy and edited as needed.
Because video owners can edit their captions, only those videos with many errors (75% or more inaccuracy, roughly) can order professional captioning though the HelpDesk ticketing system.
Opening the Caption Editor Window

Open the LEARNscape video with the captions you would like to edit.

- Click the (1) Actions drop-down menu and select (2)+Caption & Enrich.
- A new section will appear. Click on the pencil icon next to the word Ready under status to open the editing interface.
- A new window with the title Closed Caption Editor will open.
An Overview of the Closed Caption Editor

- Individual Caption Tracks: These tracks are synced along with the video. A new track is generated at the end of every sentence or whenever it detects a pause in speech. If a track doesn't start at the correct position, you can put your cursor before the word you want to start the new track with and press Enter on your keyboard. This will create a new track before that word.
- Playback Controls: The playback controls for rewind, fast forward, pause, and play makes captioning easier.
- Caption Track Editor: You make edits to the captions in this field. If you highlight a track in the editor, that section’s corresponding video will move to it to playback in the video player.
- Help/Revert/Save Buttons: Selecting Help opens the Kaltura Knowledge Base, selecting Revert reverts any unwanted edits and Save will save any edits made to the captions and will publish the changes. It is recommended to save edits as you move through the video so as not lose any progress.
