The following article details important areas of the student home page in MySUNYEmpire and assists students in navigating the overall portal.
Beginning July 1, 2024, MySUNYEmpire is in SharePoint, part of the university’s Microsoft Office 365 tenant. You will find that although the appearance has changed, the overall structure of your homepage and the organization of MySUNYEmpire is the same.
From your web browser, type “my.sunyempire.edu” (This takes you to a login screen; log in with your university ID and password.) You will land on this page:
Select “Student Home” to open the Student home page.
Tip: For faster access in the future, bookmark the Student home page in your browser. You should also “follow” the site in SharePoint by clicking the “Not following” link in the upper right (it will change to “Following”). This will add a link to the student homepage on your SharePoint homepage.

Near the upper left of the browser window you will see the standard navigation for MySUNYEmpire: links to the MySUNYEmpire landing page, a Site Map and the Student Home, as shown in the screenshot below:
Note: Faculty and staff will also see links to their respective homepages.
These standard navigation links are found on every page in MySUNYEmpire. The site map provides links to all the sites and key pages you have access to.

Announcements and “Enrollment 101”
At the top of the student home page are short announcements, typically about registration and payment. The right column, titled “Enrollment 101,” contains important reminders and more information about registering and getting ready for your courses.
System Status
Below the short announcements in the main, left column is the system status bar, where you’ll find notices about the status of university web applications and websites.
Key Tools and Resources
Below the system status bar you’ll find a set of buttons that provide links to key tools and resources.
Below these buttons the main column splits in two.
Announcements and Upcoming Events
In the left column you’ll find more announcements, and a list of upcoming events for students.
My Student Business, My Courses, My Grades and Student Resources
In the right column you’ll find a group of 4 buttons labeled “My Student Business” that provide links to three vital offices as well as a quick means to update important student information.
Below these buttons is a link to your online courses in Brightspace, and a link to Self Service Banner, with instructions on how to view your grades.
Finally, there is a list of additional resources for students.
University-wide Links
At the bottom of the page is a set of links to online resources of use to the whole university community.

The search function in MySUNYEmpire gives you two levels of results: first, within the site you’re currently on, and second within all of MySUNYEmpire.
Note: Faculty and staff have access to a third level, comprising the university’s entire SharePoint tenant.
The search box is located at the very top of the browser window, just above the standard MySUNYEmpire navigation.
When you first click in the search box, you will see a list of some of the pages contained in the site you’re on, as shown below:
If one of those pages is what you are looking for, just select it.
If not, enter a keyword or phrase and hit enter. In the example shown below, the person searched for “accessibility,” from the student home page.
Only one result is shown, because only one page in the student home page site includes the keyword “accessibility.”
Note the breadcrumb trail at the top of the page, that reads
“Organization > MySUNYEmpire > Students”
To search all of MySUNYEmpire, select “MySUNYEmpire” in the breadcrumb trail and you will see a much longer list of results, from all the MySUNYEmpire sites that you have permission to access.
Note for faculty and staff: To search the entire SharePoint tenant, select the “Organization” link in the breadcrumb trail. Again, the results will be limited to what you have permission to access.
