Introduction
This article explains the process of deleting grade items as well as grade categories. This is helpful for instructors as they periodically revise courses and refresh activities students complete.
Deleting a Grade Item Associated with an Activity
To delete a grade item associated with an activity such as an Assignment, Discussion Topic, or Quiz, you must first remove the association. To do so:
- On the course home page, select Course Menu in the navbar, then the type of activity you want to de-associate a grade item from.
- From the context menu (carrot button located to the right of the title of the activity) of the item you want to edit, select Edit.
- In the Grade Out Of section, select the Not in Grade Book option from the options available.
- Select Save and Close.
With the association removed, you can now delete the grade item:
- Select Course Menu in the navbar again, then select Grades.
- Select Manage Grades, then select Delete from the More Actions button.
- Select the check box for the grade item(s) to be deleted, then select Delete.
- Select Save and Close.
Deleting a Grade Category
Please note that deleting a grade category will NOT delete any grade items within the category. Each grade item will need to be edited or deleted individually.
- On the course home page, select Course Menu, then Grades.
- In the Manage Grades page, select Delete from the More Actions button.
- Select the check boxes for the grade categories that are to be deleted, then select Delete.
- Select Save and Close.
