Introduction

There are two ways to grade group work on an assignment. Grading from the Assignments area of the course allows instructors the ability to provide all students within a group with the same grade on the assignment. Grading from the Grades area of the course allows the instructor to assign different grades to each member of the group.

Another important point to note is that Group Assignments do not show up in the Quick Eval tool. The two methods outlined below are the only two ways to grade group submissions.

Entering Grades from Assignments

This option is best when each member of the group receives the same score.

  1. Select Course Menu followed by Assignments.
  2. Locate the group assignment from the list of assignments.
    1. Note: the group icon appears to the right of the assignment title.
  3. Select the drop-down menu located to the right of the title of the assignment and select the View Submissions option
  4. Select the submission that needs to be graded. This will open the submission grading workflow where the submission is displayed on the left side of the screen and the feedback area appears on the right.
  5. Enter the grade the assignment should earn and provide feedback. If the activity is set up in the grade book, all group members will see this grade appear in their gradebook.

Entering Grades from Grades

This option is best when each group member receives a slightly different score on the group assignment.

  1. Navigate to Grades from the Course Menu drop-down.
  2. In the View By field, instructors may select the Groups option in the first drop-down box and then select the Group Assignment that needs to be graded from the second drop-down box.
  3. Select Apply to filter the grade book.
    1. It is important to note, that the submission icon may only appear next to the student's name who submitted the work. It will not appear next to the names of the other group members.
  4. Select the drop-down option to the right of the group activity and select Enter Grades.
  5. In the Grade column, enter the points for each group member. Select the pencil icon to enter feedback for each group member.
  6. Select the Save button to save.
