Configuring Extra Time for an Assignment for an Individual Student

Introduction

Assignments help students gain a deeper understanding of the course subject while allowing the instructor to guide their learning. This article will help you add extra time to a single assignment (extend the due date) for an individual student. This process is commonly used to provide extra time on an assignment for students who have an accommodation from the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services.

Configuring Extra Time for a Single Assignment for an Individual Student

These instructions are meant for assignments such as essays, lab reports, and so forth. In order to provide a specific student with extra time:

  1. Select Course Menu from the navbar, then select Assignments.
  2. A list of the assignments in your course will be shown here. Select the downward-facing arrow to the right of the name for the assignment you need to provide extra time for.
  3. From this drop-down menu, select Edit Assignment.
  4. The Manage Assignments page for this assignment will be active on your screen. On the right side of the screen, select Availability Dates and Conditions.
  5. Select Manage Special Access.
  6. Select the Allow users with special access to submit outside the normal availability dates for this folder button in the Manage Special Access pop-up window.
  7. Select the Add Users to Special Access button.
  8. In the Special Access pop-up window, the following can be adjusted for specific students:
    • Properties: the Due Date and Availability dates can be added for the specific student you wish to apply these settings to. Select the appropriate dates.
    • Users: the class roster will appear, select the check box associated with the student who will receive this extended time.
    • Save: select the save button to save the date changes and student(s) who were selected.
  9. When you return to the Manage Special Access window, you will notice the student(s) name(s) and updated dates. Select the Save and Close button.
  10. You will now be back on the assignment setting page. If no additional changes need to be made, select the Save and Close button.
