About the American Council on Education (ACE) National Guide
The American Council on Education (ACE) is an organization that evaluates professional learning experiences for university credit. This article describes how to search the ACE National Guide website to find credit recommendations.
Ordering Documentation of Learning Through Credly
Once you have located your learning in the ACE guide, the next step is to request third-party documentation. Typically, you cannot use your copy of a certificate. Instead, the organization that provided the training needs to send the information directly to the learning to the SUNY Empire admissions office. Fortunately, ACE uses an online transcript service that makes this easy.
Start at the ACE website, click on Programs and Services, and select For Students. Scroll down and click on Request Transcripts.
ACE uses Credly, as a digital credential platform. You can log onto Credly by going to https://www.credly.com/users/sign_in.
Once you've logged in, click on the hamburger menu in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and select “Send Transcript.”
In addition to your name and birthdate, enter Empire State University as the recipient, use the admissions office’s email address (admissions@sunyempire.edu), and enter your name and student ID number in the subject line and message fields.
Click “Continue” and then “Send.”
You can see a good example of an ACE transcript at https://www.acenet.edu/Programs-Services/SiteAssets/ACE_academic_transcript_2022_example.pdf.
In the screenshot below, you can see information about the training along with the ACE recommendation.
Once the admissions office has received your transcript, the Office of Prior Learning will verify the credits for each of your ACE evaluations, and the Registrar's Office will then enter the credit onto your record (it appears as transfer credit). You and your mentor or advisor can then utilize the credits as you plan your degree or complete your structured program.
If you have any trouble ordering transcripts for your ACE-evaluated learning, start with the Credly Help Center. If your ACE-evaluated learning is not available on your Credly transcript, please contact your training provider to request your digital badge and free official transcript. If you are not sure whom to contact at your training provider, please contact ACE’s Resource Center for assistance. The Office of Prior Learning can also assist you at OPL@sunyempire.edu.
