Changing your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method from one device to another is an important step to ensure continued access to your accounts while maintaining security. Follow these steps to smoothly transition your MFA setup to a new device.

  1. Manage Your MFA Settings
    • Make sure old device is connected to the Internet
    • Log in to your Microsoft Account Settings
    • Ensure your new device has the necessary authentication app installed (e.g., Microsoft Authenticator).
    • Make sure your new device is connected to the Internet.

    • Follow the prompts to add your new device. This usually involves scanning a QR code with your new device's authentication app.

  3. Remove the Old Device 
    • Once your new device is successfully set up, remove the old device from your MFA settings.

  4. Test Your New Setup
    • Log out of your account and log back in to ensure that the new device is working correctly with your MFA setup.
    • Verify that you receive the authentication prompt on your new device.
