Accessibility Settings for InDesign

When designing web content in InDesign, follow these steps to ensure your PDF export is as accessible as possible. You will still need to do some PDF remediation in Acrobat Pro, but only begin remediation when you have your final design and no additional changes are needed. If you optimize your InDesign file first using these steps, you will have less remediation work to do in Acrobat Pro.

1. Make sure you have all the paragraph styles set and the text assigned to a paragraph style. To set/update the paragraph, select the plus button in the bottom right of the panel or double click the existing style. 
   
   
    
2. In the paragraph style options, update the style name and then select export tagging.
   
   
    
3. In the export tagging option, make sure the Tag is correct, select the include class in HTML button and in the PDF section select the correct tag.
   
   
    
4. To add any alt text, right click on the image and select object export options.
   
   
    
5. Under alt text, select custom alt text source and then type in your alt text.
   
   
    
6. Drag each design element (headers, body text, images, logos, etc.) on your document into the Articles Panel. From there organize each element into the correct reading order.
   
   
    
7. When you finish the steps above, export the file to an interactive PDF. Ensure the following options are selected: include all, embed page thumbnails, create tagged PDF, and use structure for tab order.
   
   
    
8. Open the final PDF in Acrobat Pro. View the tags panel and verify that the tags are present, accurate, and logical. It is also a good idea to run the accessibility checker. For more information, visit: Edit Tags in Acrobat Pro (opens in a new window).

Al diseñar contenido web en InDesign, sigue estos pasos para asegurarte de que tu exportación en PDF sea lo más accesible posible. Aún tendrás que hacer algo de remediación del PDF en Acrobat Pro, pero solo empezarás la remediación cuando tengas el diseño final y no necesites realizar cambios adicionales. Si optimizas primero tu archivo de InDesign siguiendo estos pasos, tendrás menos trabajo de remediación que hacer en Acrobat Pro.

1. Asegúrate de tener todos los estilos de párrafo configurados y el texto asignado a un estilo de párrafo. Para establecer o actualizar el párrafo, selecciona el botón con el signo de "más" en la esquina inferior derecha del panel o haz doble clic en el estilo existente.


2. En las opciones de estilo de párrafo, actualiza el nombre del estilo y luego selecciona Exportar etiquetado.


3. En la opción de Exportar etiquetado, asegúrate de que la etiqueta sea correcta, selecciona el botón Incluir clases en HTML y en la sección PDF selecciona la etiqueta correcta.


4. Para añadir cualquier texto alternativo, haz clic derecho en la imagen y selecciona Opciones de exportación de objetos.


5. En Texto alternativo, selecciona la fuente de texto alternativo personalizado y luego escribe tu texto alternativo.


6. Arrastra cada elemento de diseño (encabezados, texto principal, imágenes, logotipos, etc.) de tu documento al Panel de artículos. A partir de ahí, organiza cada elemento en el orden correcto de lectura.


7. Cuando termines los pasos anteriores, exporta el archivo a un PDF interactivo. Asegúrate de seleccionar las siguientes opciones: incluirlo todo, incrustar miniaturas de página, crear PDF etiquetado y usar estructura para el orden de tabulaciones.


8. Abre el PDF final en Acrobat Pro. Consulta el panel de etiquetas y verifica que las etiquetas estén presentes, sean precisas y lógicas. También es buena idea usar el comprobador de accesibilidad.
