Introduction
LUMI is a Brightspace tool that uses AI to help instructors create quiz questions more efficiently. At SUNY Empire, LUMI quiz generation is available only within the Question Library. From there, you can generate multiple-choice, true/false, short-answer, or scenario-based questions and later add them to any quiz.
How to Access LUMI Suggestions in the Question Library
- On the course navbar, select the Course Menu.
- Choose Quizzes.
- Select the Question Library from the top menu.
- Choose Generate Questions at the top of the page.
Note: LUMI does not appear inside individual quizzes, only in the Question Library.
How to Generate Quiz Questions Using LUMI
- Inside the Question Library, select Generate Questions.
Please note:
- This AI tool can help you write questions based on course content or custom text.
- Multiple Choice, True or False, Written Response, Short Answer, and Multi-Select question types are supported.
- When generating multiple questions, results may vary based on the amount of source material.
- Select the Content Source as Course Content or Custom Text.
- If you choose Course Content, the Select Content option will open the drop down to all folders of Content in the course.
- If you choose Custom Text, you may enter up to 8,000 characters in the Source Text HTML box
- Choose from Number of Questions from 1 to 10 and the question types of Multiple Choice, Ture False, Written Response, Short Answer or Multi-Select.
- To include Feedback, check the box “Include Feedback”.
- Select the level of Bloom’s taxonomy you would like the questions to address.
- Choose the Generate button.
- Select each question to review the AI-generated questions.
- Choose Save to Section.
Please note: On the Save Generated Questions, two options will appear on the screen:
- Save to Current section, will save questions directly to the current section.
- Create New Section, will create and save questions in a section inside the current section. If you choose this section, make sure to title the new section.
- Select Save to add the questions to the question library.
Please note: To edit a question, select the one you want to change and rewrite it if necessary.
