Introduction
LUMI is a Brightspace tool that uses AI to help instructors quickly generate module descriptions. These descriptions can summarize weekly themes, introduce learning objectives, and provide students with a clear overview of what to expect. LUMI-generated descriptions serve as a starting point that you can edit and align with your course design.
How to Access LUMI Suggestions
- On the course navbar, select Content
- Navigate to the module where you want to add a description.
- Choose Add a Description .
- Enter details such as topic, readings, activities, or weekly goals.
- Select Generate Summary (this may take time). The following will be stated:
- This AI tool can assist you in crafting a description that summarizes this module’s contents. The generated summary will vary depending on the content you select.
- • It will consider the first 5,000 characters from each topic selected, up to a maximum of 15 topics.
- Supported activity types include: assignments, quizzes, discussions, HTML files, and most file types including PDF.
- Under Content Source you will have two choices:
- Include all activities in the module
- Select the activities you wish to include in your description summary
- Select Generate Summaries to Review the AI‑generated module descriptions.
- After generating, you can select between three different summary options to insert into your description field where you can edit it to suit your specific context.
- Select Insert Description to add the selected text option into your module.
- Edit the description to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with your objectives.
- Choose the Update button to save the description.
