How to Manage Sections in the Question Library

Introduction

In Brightspace, you can create sections to organize your questions into folders while inside Question Library, or while creating a quiz, survey, or self-assessment. This makes it easier to add large sections of questions into a quiz, survey, or self-assessment. This article will show you how to create sections in the question library and outside the question library, and how to edit or reorder questions or sections in the question library.

Creating Sections in the Question Library

Here are the steps needed to create sections in the question library. It is recommended that subsections not be created in order to keep the organization simple and intuitive.

For a quiz: In the course navbar, go to Course Menu. Select Quizzes, then select Question Library. Go to Step 1.

For a survey: In the course navbar, go to Course Menu. Select Surveys, then select Question Library. Go to Step 1.

For a self-assessment: In the course navbar, go to Tools, and then Course Admin. Click Self Assessments, then select Question Library. Go to Step 1.

  1. In Question Library, from the New drop-down menu, click Section.
  2. Enter a Section Title.
  3. To hide the section title from students, select the Hide Section Title from Learners check box.
  4. Enter the Section Text.
  5. To hide the section text from students, select the Hide Section Text from Learners check box.
  6. To shuffle questions within this section, select the Shuffle questions in this section check box.
  7. Click Save or from the Save drop-down menu click either Save and New or Save and Copy.

Creating Sections Outside the Question Library

Here is how to create sections in the Brightspace question library, from a quiz, survey, or self-assessment. They are created as folders, and will reside directly in the assessment tool (quiz, survey, or self-assessment) you create them in, and not in the main Question Library. You will need to already be in the quiz, survey, or self-assessment to follow these steps:

  1. On the Edit [Quiz/Survey/Self-Assessment] page, select Create New, then select Section.
  2. Enter a Section Title.
  3. To hide the section title from students, select the Hide Section Title from Learners check box.
  4. Enter the Section Text.
  5. To hide the section text from students, select the Hide Section Text from Learners check box.
  6. To shuffle questions within this section, select the Shuffle questions in this section check box.
  7. Click Save or from the Save drop-down menu select either Save and New or Save and Copy.

Editing or Reordering Questions or Sections in Question Library

Here is how to edit a question or section in Question Library:

  1. In Question Library, from the context menu of the question or section you want to edit, select the down chevron next to the questions or section name, then select Edit.
  2. Make your changes and select Save.

Here is how to reorder a question or section in Question Library:

  1. In Question Library, select Order.
  2. On the Order page, select the check box for any question or section you want to move.
  3. Select the Move Up or Move Down icons.
