How to install Microsoft Teams

*note: Safari is not supported for use with the Microsoft Teams web application. Mac users can download Chrome/Firefox to use the app.

This article will provide steps on how to log into your Microsoft Teams account.

1. Login to your sunyempire email account (portal.office.com).  

2. Click the menu bar & select the Teams app. 

3. Click “get app” to download to your computer once logged in (Optional).  

*Download directly to desktop by visiting the Microsoft Team download page.

How to find a contact in Microsoft Teams

This article will provide steps to finding a contact in Teams. 

1. Open/Login to Teams online or in app. 

2. Click Calls from side bar menu. 

3. Click Contacts from the sub-menu.

  

4. A search bar will appear that says in gray “Find a Contact.”

5. Type in professor, staff or students name to find/select the person you’re looking for.

**Hovering over contact will give the option: to start a chat, send an email, start an audio and or video call or send an instant message.

How to Start a Call in Microsoft Teams

1. Open/Login to Teams online or in app.

2. Click Calls from side menu bar.

3. You can click on a pinned contact (if you are part of a group) and start call

4. Another option: use the search bar to look a person up.

5. Once their name appears in search bar click “the phone” icon (for audio only calls) or “video camera” icon (for audio and video calls) to start the type of call you need.

 How to start a chat in Microsoft Teams

 

This article will provide steps to start a new chat. 

Option 1 

1. Open/Login to Teams online or in app 

2. Click the “pencil and paper” icon located at top of interface to start new chat 

Option 2 

1. Right click Chat from the side bar menu to start a new chat 

 

2. In the search bar, type in professor, staff, or students name. Type your message and click the send arrow to send.

 How to Open Meeting from the Calendar in Microsoft Team

This article will provide steps on how to open a meeting from your calendar.

1. Open/Login to Teams online or in app.

2. Click Calendar from side bar menu options.

3. Locate date of meeting (scheduled meetings should be in color) and click the box for additional details.

4. Additional details will display and click the Join button to attend meeting.

**You can also join directly from your email account if you are logged in prior to your meeting. A pop-up window will appear in the top right-hand corner letting you know meeting is about to start. Click too see details and or join meeting.
