Adding Microsoft Outlook to a Phone or Mobile Device

Introduction

To access SUNY Empire email on a mobile device, you must install the Microsoft Outlook application. Outlook complies with university security protocols and ensures safe access to your email. Native or default email apps on iPhones and Android devices are not supported by the university.

Instructions for iOS Devices (iPhones, iPads)

Steps:

  1. Select the Settings icon.
  2. Navigate to Accounts & Passwords.
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Choose Exchange.
  5. Enter your full SUNY Empire email address and an account description.
  6. If settings are not automatically found, enter the server address: outlook.office365.com.
  7. Enter your SUNY Empire email address as the username and your password.
  8. Mail, Contacts, and Calendar sync by default—adjust as needed and select Save.
  9. When prompted, create a numeric passcode and tap Continue.

Instructions for Android Devices

Steps:

  1. Select the Settings icon.
  2. Tap Add Account.
  3. Select Email.
  4. Enter your full SUNY Empire email address and password, then tap Next.
  5. If prompted for an account type, choose Exchange.
  6. Accept the default account settings.
  7. If your device cannot connect, enter the following:
    • Domain/Username: your full SUNY Empire email address
    • If fields are separate: leave Domain blank and enter your email in the Username field
    • Server: outlook.office365.com
  8. Configure your email sync preferences on the Account Options screen.
  9. If prompted to activate device administrator, select Activate.
  10. Name the mailbox on your device as desired.

Installing the Microsoft Outlook App

Download the Microsoft Outlook app from your device's app store:

  • iPhone/iPad: Apple App Store
  • Android devices: Google Play Store
