Adding Microsoft Outlook to a Phone or Mobile Device

Introduction

To access SUNY Empire email using a mobile device, you will need to install the Microsoft Outlook application. The Outlook application meets all security protocols for accessing and protecting your SUNY email data. Default or native email applications on iPhones and Android phones are not supported by the university. 

Instructions for iOS Devices (iPhones, iPads)

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Select Accounts & Passwords.
  3. Select the Add Account option.
  4. Select the option for Exchange.
  5. Type your full SUNY Empire email address and a Description of the email account.
  6. If your iOS device can't find your settings enter outlook.office365.com for your server address.
  7. Enter your SUNY Empire username (this will be your full SUNY Empire email address) and password.
  8. By default, Mail, Contacts, and Calendar information is synchronized. Change as desired and select the Save option.
  9. You will be prompted to create a pass-code, select Continue and enter a numeric pass code that you will remember.

Instructions for Android Devices

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Select the Add Account option.
  3. Select the option for Email.
  4. Type your full SUNY Empire email address and your password, then select Next.
  5. If you are prompted for an account type, select Exchange.
  6. Accept any default settings for the account.
  7. If your device cannot connect, check these settings: Domain/Username - Type your full SUNY Empire email address into this field.
  8. If the Domain and Username fields are separate, leave Domain blank and enter your full SUNY Empire email address in the username field.
  9. If you are prompted to specify a server, enter outlook.office365.com.
  10. On the next screen (Account Options) select how you want to receive your mail.
  11. If you see an "Activate device administrator?" page, select Activate.
  12. Enter a name for the mailbox on your phone.
