Using Class Progress

What is the Class Progress Tool?

The Class Progress tool tracks your learners' overall progress as a course and individually.

You may want to use the Class Progress tool to do any of the following:

  • Monitor progress for any or all users in your course
  • Prepare progress reports
  • View user profiles, email users, or instant message users
  • Track when a user accesses the course and downloads course content
  • Track a user's grades, completion of learning objectives, access of content topics, participation in discussions, assignment submissions, quiz submissions, checklist completion, survey responses, login history, and system access.
  • Set up intelligent Agents for learners who are falling behind in a course
  • View feedback and submissions for assignments, discussion topics, and other assessments for individual learners

How to access the Class Progress Tool

In your Brightspace course, select the Tool menu and then select Class Progress. The Class Progress overview page will appear.

Class Progress Overview Page

The class progress overview page displays overview information for each student in the course.

The default overviews are:

  • Content Completion Summary
  • Objectives Completion Summary
  • Login History (Last 30 days)
  • Grades Performance Summary

You may have only four overviews total. Seven additional views are available by selecting the Settings Menu.

Then select Replace available under the Chevron to the right of the overview title you would like to replace.

The additional overviews are:

  • Assignments Performance Summary
  • Checklist Completion Summary
  • Content Visited Summary
  • Discussion Participation Summary
  • Quiz Performance Summary
  • Survey Completion Summary
  • System Access (Last 30 Days)

Intelligent Agents

The Class Progress overview page also has a link to set up the use of (Intelligent) agents to automate feedback.

How to view individual student progress

In the class progress overview page, you can select the name of any individual student and the Progress Summary for that student will be displayed. The left side of the page contains links to the various summary items or you can view the items on the right side of the page and expand the details for each item using the arrow toggles.

Please note that the content must meet three criteria to be included in the learner's progress:

  • The learner must have access to the content
  • The content must be marked with a completion method of Required Automatic or Required Manual
  • The content is not exempt

When content does not meet these conditions, the topics are not included in the calculation of the learner’s progress.

Student Progress Settings Menu

In the Settings menu you can adjust:

  • Which Progress indicators you want to include
  • Project Report Information Settings
  • Color indicators (chooses the color for the "On Track", "Some Concerns" and "At Risk" displays

Printing Student Reports

To print individual student reports:

  1. Select the name of the student for whom you would like to print a report.
  2. On the individual student page select Print.

  3. On the Print Preview page select Settings to adjust the Print Settings including Time Range, Components to Display and Summary or Detail information. Click Save and Close to return to the Print Preview page.

  4. Navigate to the Print button to print the report (end of the preview page). You may select cancel to return to the individual progress summary without printing the report.
