Introduction
Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's cloud version of Microsoft Office 2019 that includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive and Microsoft TEAMS. This means that if you have access to the Internet you can access the online version of these applications. Students are also able to download this full Microsoft Office 2019 application suite on multiple devices, including PCs, Macs, Android tablets, Android phones, iPad, and iPhone.
Your Microsoft 365 Outlook license becomes active upon acceptance to the university. Your full Microsoft 365 license will become active after registering for your first class with SUNY Empire.

Set Up Your Microsoft 365 Email Account
Email is an official communication channel at SUNY Empire. You have been provided with a Microsoft 365 Outlook email box for your personal use while an active student with SUNY Empire. This Microsoft 365 email license will allow you to conduct your university business using your official university email address.
Please login at www.sunyempire.edu/email and check your university email regularly for important updates.
The email address and password to access your mailbox will be the same as your SUNY Empire login.

If you would like to request to forward your university email to your personal email account, or update your personal email address on file with the university, navigate to SUNY Empire Student Email Forward Settings.
Accessing and Downloading Microsoft 365
Once you receive your Welcome To Microsoft 365 email sent to your personal email address on file with the university, you can visit www.office.com to start using Microsoft 365 online web application (OWA).
SUNY Empire students can download and install up to 5 licensed copies of the Microsoft Office suite. You have the option to download the Microsoft Office suite to your computer, laptop, or mobile devices.
Accessing Microsoft 365
- Go to www.office.com
- Click on Sign In. Please Note: Do not click on the option to Sign up for a Free Version! You will get your license from the university!
- Enter your university user name into the Microsoft Sign In field. (first name_last name###@esc.edu)
- You will be re-directed to the SUNY Empire log in page. Enter your university username and password.
- Click on Yes, to stay signed into the Microsoft 365 environment.
