Cannot Access College Email on Mobile Device

Relevant to: students

Introduction

In order to provide the most secure method of connecting to Microsoft Outlook email, Microsoft requires the use of secure modern authentication settings. In order to meet these standards, effective November 2, 2020, ITS implemented this new security protocol for accessing your university Outlook email.

What to Expect

The native/default email app on most mobile devices will no longer authenticate securely with your SUNY Empire credentials to provide access to email. Affected users:

  • May receive prompts asking them to reauthenticate their SUNY Empire credentials in the native email client
  • May not receive new email or refresh email in the native application on their mobile device.

As a result, mobile users will now need to download the Outlook mobile app to continue logging into the email inbox.

How to Resolve

Users who are unable to reauthenticate should remove the account from the native client, and access the SUNY Empire inbox via the Outlook app for your supported device.

We encourage you to download and install the Microsoft Outlook for iOS/Android application via your device's App store, or via the following link: Microsoft Outlook for iOS and Android.
