Signing into your computer after a password change

Updating your new password on your computer login screen

You may find it beneficial to either bring up these directions on another device or print them out, as you will not be able to reference them on the device you are updating.

If you have received an email saying your password will be expiring, on November 19, 2024, you will be prompted to change to a password of 14 or more characters. You will see a prompt to change your password when you are logged into your computer. It will show your university email address, and requests your current (old) password, and then lines for a new password and confirmation of the new password, like this:

After you have changed your password, you will need to update your login information in several places. Windows machine and Macs have separate directions, each listed below.

Windows machines:

  1. After you change your password, you will need to log out of Global Protect if you have ever logged in before and then log back into Global Protect with your new password:
    1. Click on Global Protect in your system tray

    2. or press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and you’ll see Lock at the top of the menu.

  1. At the login screen, select Other User in the lower left corner.

    • For your username, use your full SUNY Empire email address: firstname.lastname@sunyempire.edu and then use your new password. This will log you back in with your existing profile (files, Outlook setup, etc.)

Mac OS machines:

  2. If you are at a university site, you will need to be connected to the network through a hardwire (docking stations are usually hardwired) or you will need to log into the ESCGuestWiFi network (not SUNYEmpire WiFi network). The current guest Wi-Fi password can be found here: Guest Password
  3. Sign into the Local Mac Profile using your email address: firstname.lastname@sunyempire.edu or just firstname.lastname and your old password.

Other logins

You will need to log back into your programs on your computer, and also on your phone, iPad, or any other devices you use your university account on.

You will need to log back into university WiFi on your computer, or your university owned iPad.  If you log into university WiFi on your phone or personal devices, we recommend you log in with EduRoam rather than the SUNYEmpire wifi. You will need to log back into EduRoam with the new password, as well.
