Faculty Turnitin Portal
Turnitin can only be used for assignments in a Brightspace course. If you would like to check student work submitted in discussions or by email, you may use the Faculty Turnitin Portal.
The portal has options for submitting work for formative assessment (not submitted to the Turnitin Database) and final assessments (Submitted to the Turnitin Database). Step-by-step instructions for submitting student work are available in the Faculty Turnitin Portal.
Each academic year has a dedicated portal.
Note: The portal will be closed for submissions at the conclusion of the academic year. You will still be able to view any submitted reports for the incomplete period in the following term.
Using the Faculty Turnitin Portal
Step 1: Uploading Documents to be Checked for Similarity
Upon entering the Faculty Turnitin Portal, choose the assignment type that best matches your purpose. The portal contains a total of 15 assignments, organized into two categories:
- Formative Assessments - Use these assignments to review drafts and provide feedback. Student submissions are not added to the Turnitin repository database.
- Summative Assessments - Use these assignments for final submissions. Student work is added to the Turnitin repository database and become part of the Turnitin database.
Step 2: Upload Your Document
- Open either the Formative Assessment module or the Summative Assessment module, depending on your needs.
- Scroll down to the Assignments and select any of the available assignment dropbox.
- Select on the Upload button and locate the file to review.
- Please note: If you are reviewing a Brightspace discussion post submitted in a live course, copy the discussion content from Brightspace, paste it into a Microsoft Word document, and upload the Word document to one of the available assignments.
- Select the Submit button.

Understanding Resubmissions
Turnitin allows you to resubmit documents as many times as needed until the assignment due date. However, there are a few important guidelines to keep in mind:
- You may submit up to three (3) documents to the same assignment within a 24-hour period. Each of these submissions will generate a Similarity Report.
- Beginning with the fourth submission to the same assignment, Turnitin delays the Similarity Report by 24-hours before generating a new report.
- Once a document has been submitted to the Turnitin repository database, resubmitting the same document may result in a 100% similarity score, since the previous submission is now included in the comparison database.
- With each resubmission, any the most recent submissions and its Similarity Reports remain available. Previous submission and reports are overwritten.
To Keep in Mind
All assignments within the portal have a predetermined deadline. It is recommended to plan accordingly!
