LEARNscape in Brightspace Overview

Introduction

LEARNscape is a tool that enables students, faculty, and staff, to view, record, upload, publish, search, and share video directly in the Brightspace environment. This article will only address the features of LEARNscape that exist within Brightspace.

Why Use LEARNscape in Brightspace?

LEARNscape in Brightspace provides an easy and convenient way for you to create and store media without ever having to leave Brightspace. Whether you have been using and editing video for years or you are brand new to using video in the classroom, LEARNscape has an answer. Also with LEARNscape, a YouTube account or a use of screencast app is no longer necessary. LEARNscape provides machine-generated captions and gives faculty the opportunity to create video assignments.

What can I do with LEARNscape in Brightspace?

LEARNscape in Brightspace allows both students and faculty to:

  • View all videos associate with a course in its Course Media Gallery.
  • From My Learnscape Media, view all your LEARNscape videos and also access Media Upload, Express Capture, and Kaltura Capture.
  • Embed your video as a video player through the Insert Stuff button among your HTML editor toolbar.
  • Add a hyperlink of your LEARNscape video through the Embed LEARNscape Media option though the Insert Quicklink button among your HTML editor toolbar.

Faculty can also:

  • Add a hyperlink to one of your LEARNscape videos through the Existing Activities button.

Acceptable Media Formats

LEARNscape accepts a large variety of media formats which makes sharing your content easier than ever.

  • Video: flv, f4v, mp4, mov, mpg, mpeg, webm, wm, wmv, and most other formats
  • Audio: aac, aiff, amr, asf, avi, f4v, flv, mp3, mp4, mov, wav and other formats
  • Image: jpg, png, bmp and other formats
